Providing care for patients with varied conditions such as Diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, cardiomyopathy, Gestational Diabetes, Chronic renal failure, Pancreatic diabetes, Chronic liver disease, LADA (Latent Diabetes of the Adult), MODY (Modified onset diabetes of the young), Charcot's arthropathy, Emergencies in Diabetes, Infections in Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease and Dyslipidemia in diabetes and so on.
- Providing the essential instructions to the patients regarding diabetes i.e. diet and exercise
- Advising the patients the methods of having an insulin injection and storing it in a proper way
- Inspiring patients for living proactive and educating them how to avoid the risk of developing diabetes
- Directing them on the diet plan, exercise, and self-management
- Providing the planning of control the diabetes
- Making them aware of SMBG (Self Blood Glucose Monitoring) and teaching them insulin dose adjustments
- Psychological preparation, support and acceptance of patient and family
- Managing type 1 diabetic patients and GDM patients
- Handling of insulin pumps, glucometers, insulin pens and various other gadgets used
- Installation of CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITORING SYSTEM (CGMS)
- Helping out patients in identifying the cause of both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia
- Maintaining ward stocks such as linen, pharmacy and stores
- Keeping an inventory on glucometers, pharmacy, insulin vials, pens and glucometers
- Assigning duty schedule for other staffs
- Reporting and management of problems regarding patients, staff, and other general things
- Providing psychological support for colleagues
- Conducting various outreach programs such as School health programs, Diabetes awareness Camps etc. in creating awareness among the public regarding Diabetes and also screening the public
- Responsible for teaching the nurses in hospital on various aspects in management of diabetes
- Responsible for the foot care clinic. Meeting the foot care needs of the diabetic patients [corn and callus removal, wound debridement, dressings]
- Has undergone a special master training program for diabetes educator
- Responsible for Direct organization and supervision of nursing care
- Analysis patient needs and suggests new methods to improve patient care
- Give patient care assignments to staff
- Assist staff and students in planning and giving nursing care
- Develop awareness and stimulate utilization of all available resources in planning and giving nursing care
- Evaluate staff in the work
- Evaluate nursing care
- Make rounds with doctors
- Orient staff and students to ward routines and patients
- Audit the recording of the patient care
- Responsible for General administration of the ward
- Arrange duty hours for professional and non-professional staffs (Attender, Sweeper)
- Maintain healthy and comfortable environment for the patient
- Maintain sufficient supplies and equipment in good condition
- Maintain inventories for equipment and linen
- Supervise patients diet
- Participate in ward sisters conference
- Endeavor to keep up the morale of the staff
- Encourage the professional growth and development of the staff
- Prompt reporting of accidents and incidents
- Co-ordinate with other services
- Maintain good public relationship
- Co-operative in implementing the policies of the institution
- Promote good interpersonal relations between staff
