I am currently resident in Shin-Okubo, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan. As native English Instructor I have taught - all age-groups from adults to kindergarten - in Japan (15 years) and in Korea (4 years). I worked for Kang Nam University (Seoul, Korea) – teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, professors and private individual and also customized corporate teaching for various companies (Legal Research Centre (immigration & judicial officers: prosecutors, & juvenile detention officers, Japanese, Chinese & English language teachers)., Samsung Electronics (semiconductor engineers), Green Cross Pharmaceutical Benefit Management Corporation (medical engineers), Dong-Ah Elecomm (electrical engineers).
I majored in English and French for my B.A. degree at South Africa’s most prestigious university Stellenbosch (US). I also qualified in Law (LL.B.) as Senior Lawyer (Barrister/Advocate). My second degree is a post-graduate degree and equivalent to a Master’s Degree covering all aspects of Public, Private and Mercantile Law. It is the minimum qualification to be appointed a judge in South Africa’s High Courts.
Joining South Africa’s Foreign Service, I trained as a diplomat completing post-graduate university courses (political science, economics, law, anthropology, sociology, media & communication skills) at the following universities: Witwatersrand (Wits), Pretoria (UP), South Africa (UNISA) and Johannesburg (formerly RAU).
Officer, I managed bilateral relations between South Africa and the Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland & Iceland), Germany, Austria and Switzerland (1988-1991). I was posted as diplomat (First Secretary) to the South African Embassy in Tokyo, Japan (1991-1994). Afterwards, I was appointed Assistant Director for Human Rights in the Multilateral Division (1994-1995) of South Africa’s Foreign Service.
I practiced as Lawyer and Legal Advisor representing Southern African indigenous peoples' organizations in South Africa, Namibia and at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland (1996-2002).
As Professional Researcher I undertook commissions doing primary research in various archival institutions and public records offices (Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, England & South Africa) for 30 years. I have published research papers, given presentations, and edited a journal on various micro-historical aspects of Dutch colonial expansion in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Experienced in many fields of endeavour, I have travelled widely (29 countries), lived abroad (4 countries), studied, researched, edited and published (languages, linguistics, literature, law, politics and history), know a number of foreign languages (French, Dutch, Danish, Latin) enjoy teaching - especially interacting in a cross-cultural milieu - and have much experience in education, public relations, presentations, elocution, hospitality and media work.
I enjoy sharing my experience (also multi-lingual) and gaining new experience while also developing more effective ways of teaching English to non-native English students. I am happiest teaching my native tongue (English) and sharing knowledge and experience.
