• Identification and referral of malnourished children to nearest hospital • Growth monitoring of children-MUAC, Height and Weight, Weight for Age WHZ score • Community nutrition and health education • Follow up , home visit and individual counseling for mothers with malnourished children • Vitamin A supplementation and deworming and children under the age of five years • Supplementary food distribution for children, pregnant and lactating mothers • Community mobilization for outreach services, NUTRITION and WASH programs.

• Counsel mothers on good nutrition and that of their children.
• Administer vitamin A to children and iron/folate supplements to mothers.
• Deforming and give anti-malaria to mothers and children.
• Observe the way immunization is carried out about the various immunization given • Ensure that mothers are breastfeeding their babies, assess the breastfeeding practices and counsel on the breastfeeding problems they may be facing.
• Ensure that mothers who delivered at home and are bringing their babies for the first time are given Vitamin A (within 4 weeks after delivery).
• Advice on maternal nutrition and breastfeeding.
• Ensure that mothers who attend the family planning clinic are breastfeeding.
• Ensure that initiation of breastfeeding is done within 30 minutes of delivery.
• Ensure mothers are given Vitamin A before they are discharged.
• Ensure that mothers continue breastfeeding when the child is sick.
• If the child is above 6 months ensure appropriate complementary feeding.
• Diet counseling.

SEPT 2018 TO DEC 2018: INTERNSHIP VOLUNTEER AT THE GARISSA COUNTY REFERRAL HOSPITAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Pediatric ward, assessing new patients, admitting ,enrolling to the program of nutrition services.
• Maternal and child clinic (MCH/FP), counseling mothers on good nutrition and that of their child • Diabetic clinic, assessing patient and encouraging them to eat fruits and vegetables and also doing regular exercise daily to reduce fats in the body • General awards, identifying patients with severe medical conditions such T.B, chronic kidney failure, chronic obstructive , chronic cancer, acute malnutrition, burns and fractures to prepare for their suitable meals at every condition to manage • Maternity wards, assessing patients and administering vitamins such as vitamin supplementation and nutrient such as liver,eggs,milk for those patients with the Hb of less 10 to 3g/d.
