I’m an agricultural technician, who seeks to understand the impact of the environment on crops and their yield. In this role, I study the effects of disease and pests on plants by collecting and analyzing samples collected in the field. My responsibilities and duties include working on farms and setting up experiments as well as in labs to perform test analysis.
My job is to examine specimens from crops to determine the effects of diseases, nutritional deficiencies, and water stress issues. In my work, I do collaborate with a team of technicians and other scientists to perform my work. In most cases, this position is typically full-time with regular business hours and some field visits are required.
Sometimes, I do part-time consultations.
Through my career and training, I have been able to gain experience in the following areas; crop production, Irrigation assessment and soil degradation management; water and fertilizer management; soils tests and pest management; use of phenotypic traits to solve agronomic problems; soil sampling and soil chemistry and using the analysis report to offer farmers an accurate result and recommendation on what type of fertilizer should be used on crops. It has also offered me experience and skills in plant phytosanitary and disease management.
Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Biotechnology enriched me with molecular, agronomy and crop protection and crop management knowledge which I have applied extensively in my career in my career.
