I am a certified nutritionist recognized by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute. My knowledge, skills and experience in this field stem from my bachelor's degree study in Food Science and Nutrition, and master's degree in Food Security and Community Nutrition and also from work platforms in both government facilities and humanitarian organizations. Precisely, my areas of focus include but not limited to nutrition and health, food security, research, project management, education, and water, sanitation and hygiene.

I am passionate about saving, improving and transforming lives of people through application of high quality nutrition principles and concepts.

Role: Nutritionist Intern

Responsibilities:

• Facilitation of nutrition counseling and education among special groups such as lactating mothers.
• Preparation of therapeutic foods for malnourished children.
• Preparation of weekly and monthly nutrition reports for different stakeholders such as donors and ministry of health.
• Participation in integrated outreach activities such as home visits and food distribution.
• Defaulter tracing and client follow up.
• Implementation of the integrated management of acute malnutrition in in-patient therapeutic care, outpatient therapeutic care and supplementary feeding programs.
• Execution of mass screening survey among refugees in the settlement. 

Bungoma County Referral Hospital

Responsibilities:

• Nutrition assessment for patients and making nutrition diagnosis.
• Calculation of diet quantities, frequencies and composition for patients with special nutrient needs such as those on tube feeding.
• Nutrition counseling for patients with obesity, diabetes, peptic ulcers, hypertension, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, among other conditions.
• Administration of important supplements such as vitamin A and iron to eligible patients. For instance, vitamin A to children under five years and iron to expectant mothers. This was done according to ministry of health protocol.
• Preparation of therapeutic diets for patients with special cases such as throat cancer.
• Facilitation of nutrition education to mothers and caretakers at maternal clinics and pediatric ward.
• Deworming children aged one year and above and other patients where necessary according to Ministry of health protocol.
• Coordinated other interns as their team captain. This involved preparation of weekly duty roster and overseeing them in their working areas.
• Participation in multi-disciplinary outreach activities and research in nutrition.
• Implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities such as documentation of all nutrition activities in integrated nutrition registers and preparation of reports.

African Institute of Research and Development Studies

Role: Trainer of Nutrition and Dietetics Management

Responsibilities:

• Teaching various units of nutrition such as diet therapy, community nutrition, nutritional biochemistry, food science and technology, and food microbiology.
• Preparation of timetables for nutrition department.
• Setting, moderation, supervision and marking examinations.
• Coordination of students for academic field trips.
• Assessment of students on field attachment.
