Elphas Lagat is a multimedia journalist at the BBC with focus on Health and Science and digital reporting. He is a passionate, dynamic and highly versatile communicator who is committed to bringing honest and impactful stories to the public.
He is currently on placement with the BBC Digital sharpening his skills for a digital first newsroom, photography and mobile journalism. He is upskilling on latest techniques of editing with final cut, use of compelling visuals such as transitions, text pieces and search engine optimization.
He is adept in rigorous research, creative video production and fact checking to deliver the most accurate, fair and comprehensive content possible. Elphas has traversed the African continent carrying out in-depth coverage and analysis of original stories that are unique to the diverse communities living in different countries across the region.
In his work spanning over seven years, Elphas has worked closely with NGOs and international corporations including World Bank, UN, AMISOM (Africa Mission in Somalia) Kenya Defense Forces, Red Cross, Kenya Council of Governors and AMREF.
He began his career at KTN News where he specialized in documentary production, he later joined Kenya’s leading TV channel Citizen Tv where he covered a wide array of stories from politics to health and current affairs reporting, winning Annual Journalism Excellence award in 2021 and helped in shaping Citizen Digital content which is now over a year old. He joined BBC in February 2022 where he has been working to date.He is committed to the future of journalism and is keen on learning more innovative ways of telling stories and engaging with audiences in an increasingly turbulent and uncertain world.
