About
Geoinformation Technology professional with five+ years of hands-on experience translating spatial data into operational decisions — from wildlife census processing at DRSRS to utility mapping for Kenya Power, and currently leading GIS engineering on Kenya's Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) GeoPortal. Working at the intersection of GIS and software engineering: ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, multi-CRS transformations, remote sensing, and 3D terrain modelling on one side; Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Leaflet, Cesium.js, and BIM/IFC pipelines on the other. Adept at translating complex geospatial requirements into clean, maintainable systems and at communicating technical detail to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience
GIS Expert at Wamalwa Surveyors (2026-02 – Present)
GIS lead on the Kenya Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) GeoPortal, where Wamalwa Surveyors is sub-contracted to deliver the geospatial registry underpinning the national programme.
- Spatial database design: Built a multi-CRS PostgreSQL + PostGIS 3 schema supporting EPSG:21036 / 21037 / 21096 / 21097 ingestion, with all geometries stored in EPSG:21036 and reprojected to EPSG:4326 on the way out.
- Backend architecture: Designed a layered FastAPI application (routers → services → repositories → core) covering counties, areas, lots, sites, buildings, housing units, beneficiaries, drone surveys, and topomaps.
- BIM → 3D Tiles pipeline: Engineered an IFC → GLB → 3D Tiles workflow using ifcopenshell, pygltflib, and 3d-tiles-tools, embedding EXT_structural_metadata so every housing unit is independently pickable in the Cesium viewer.
- WebGIS frontend: Delivered a Leaflet + Cesium.js single-page application with a five-tab admin console (Ingest / Manage / Activity / CRS Audit / Users) supporting shapefile uploads and structured-record forms.
- Security & access control: Implemented six RBAC roles, pgcrypto-based PII encryption, PostgreSQL Row-Level Security on beneficiary records, OAuth2 password grant + JWT auth, and slowapi rate-limiting tiers.
- Survey integration: Processed topographical surveys, drone imagery, and cadastral data into the registry; supported terrain analysis, contour generation, and 3D visualisations for client presentations and design planning.
Freelance GIS Practitioner at Independent (Upwork, Fiverr, Guru) (2025 – Present)
Offering GIS, cartography, remote sensing, and spatial-analysis services to clients in Kenya and abroad on a contract basis.
- Sourced, cleaned, and organised spatial datasets from remote sensing, GPS, mobile collection apps, and open-data repositories.
- Built interactive web maps, dashboards, and GIS-based applications for businesses, NGOs, and individual clients.
- Designed custom GIS reports, infographics, and story maps; produced thematic, heat, topographical, and land-use maps to cartographic standards.
- Digitized survey plans and base maps; performed georeferencing, coordinate transformations, and datum conversions for cadastral data.
GIS Intern — PSIP Cohort V at Directorate of Resource Survey & Remote Sensing (DRSRS) (2023 – 2024)
- Gathered geospatial data from field surveys, remote sensing, and government databases; cleaned, validated, and formatted records for downstream analysis.
- Processed wildlife census data, increasing reporting accuracy by 15% through systematic data -cleaning workflows.
- Maintained and updated DRSRS GIS databases; performed spatial analysis and produced thematic maps for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contributed to the design and development of the DRSRS Geoportal, including interactive web maps and dashboards.
- Generated reports and presentations summarising spatial-analysis findings; communicated complex geographic information to non-technical audiences.
Polling Clerk at Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) (2022-08 – 2022-08)
- Transported and set up election materials at polling stations in accordance with IEBC layout standards.
- Verified voters against the register, oversaw the voting process, and tabulated cast votes at close of poll.

- Collected and validated GPS coordinates for customer meters across the Kenya Grid, reducing mapping errors and supporting technical reporting.
- Digitised and mapped 500+ utility features in ArcGIS and QGIS, improving network data accuracy by approximately 20%.
School Field Assessment Officer at Ministry of Education (2021-10 – 2021-12)
- Collected and analysed GPS and survey data from schools across Bomet and Migori counties, evaluating infrastructure against Ministry of Education standards.
- Liaised with 100+ school administrators (principals and head teachers) to assess compliance and capture site-level data.
Industrial Attachment at Ministry of Lands — Narok Lands Office (2021-02 – 2021-03)
- Exposure to GPS equipment, area computations, mutation surveys, and the implementation of court orders related to land disputes.
- Assisted with preparation of survey summons, cartography and map production, and RIM (Registry Index Map) amendments.
