George Marechera is the Head – Digital Systems and Solutions for Agriculture are AGRA. He is responsible for supporting AGRA’s 3.0 strategy and AGRA’s Digital Agricultural Strategy with improved technologies for farmers to achieve higher yields and farmers and SMEs to access better marketing opportunities to improve their productivity and profitability, as well as improved food systems and food security decision making for national and regional mandated institutions. George has vast experience in developing and implementation digital systems and solutions for agriculture with a passion for supporting governments, SMEs, farmers with appropriate digital tools for improved productivity, profitability and optimization of resources.
Having worked in more than 23 countries in Africa, George has a wealth of experience having worked for different local, regional, and international organizations in various roles in the agriculture industry with keen interest on digital systems and solutions, AI /ML, Blockchain, mechanization, agri-business development, market and financial linkages, and business strategy.
He holds an MBA from Wolverhampton University, UK, Diploma in Management from Harvard University, a BSc Honours in Economics Degree from University of Zimbabwe, and several professional management qualifications.
I am a seasoned business strategist with 27 years of international experience across 24 countries, specializing in agricultural transformation, digital innovation, and agribusiness development. Currently serving as Head of Digital Systems and Solutions for Agriculture at AGRA, i drive the adoption of digital technologies to enhance food systems in Africa, shaping policies, fostering partnerships, and ensuring data-driven decision-making. Previously, as Head of Agribusiness, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning at AATF, i led commercialization strategies for agricultural technologies, designed market systems, and managed multi-country projects, significantly impacting smallholder farmers.
My expertise spans business modeling, resource mobilization, gender mainstreaming, and public-private partnerships, with a strong track record in financial management and team leadership.
Earlier roles include Managing Director of Agridrive Ltd, where i scaled agribusiness solutions, and leadership positions in projects like Cassava Mechanization and Agro-processing (CAMAP), enhancing productivity across Africa. My career began in Zimbabwe’s public sector, focusing on privatization, economic policy, and donor-funded projects. I hold an MBA (Wolverhampton University) and a BSc in Economics (University of Zimbabwe), complemented by certifications in project management and monitoring & evaluation.
