Gerard Barutwanayo

I am Gerard Barutwanayo from Burundi . From 2018,i am Expert on environment and climate change statistics(EG-ECCS). Since Mai 2018 today , I am one of members of the EG-ECCS working with UNSD and consultant in AFRISTAT on environment and climate change statistics for the CEMAC countries.

• A consultant in AFISTAT from march 2026, i train member countries on the Framework for the Development of environment Statistics, The Global set of Climate Change Statistics and Indicators, the use of Environment Statistics Self Assessment Tool(ESSAT) and Climate Indicators Self Assessment Tool(CISAT), i finalised the roadmap for the production of environmental statistics compendium and the report on climate change Statistics, the list of indicators from the ESSAT and the CISAT to be collected and suitable for the CEMAC Countries are knowen now, and the data collection questionnaire was already finilazed the next steps will be the data collection.
• As member of UN Expert Group on environment and climate change statisics, Since 2018, i participate annually the EG-ECCS meeting and we foccus on: Standardization of methods, classifications and definitions in environment and climate change statistics, Data collection, processing and dissemination of environment statistics, in particular in the areas of water and waste statistics, the climate change statistics, as well as support the work of the environmentally related SDG indicators, Technical cooperation, training and capacity development in environment and climate change statistics and Coordination and harmonization of environment and climate change statistics and indicator programmes and activities. Currently as member of subgroup on climate statistics, we are thinking on the development of climate change questionnaire to be use at global level in different survel and censuses.
• As consultant of UNSECA, during my works with Burukina Faso in 2019, my duties were to train INSD on the implementation of FDES, the use of ESSAT and the mission report was produced, The roadmap according to the critical phases of FDES was produced and The ompedium of Evironement was produced and published by the Country.
• During my works with UNSD as consultant in African Freinch Counties in 2021, the duty were the testing of the applicabilty of the Global Set of Climate change Statistiscs and the development of the Implementation Guidelines on climate chinge Statistics. After the consultancy, the Mission report on applicability of CISAT for selected countries: Burundi, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Cabo Verd and on the implementation guidelines of the Global set were produced and the Implemenation guidelines of the global set of the climate change statistics and indicators produced and published by the UNSD.
• During the Consultancy with COMESA 2022-2023, the dusties were to develop environment and climate change in African Development Countries (37 Countries ) and to assist technically three selected countries namely Kenya, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe. After the consultancy, inception was report produced, Assessments report on environment and climate change statistics for the 37 counties suported by COMESA via the African Development Fund was produced,Capacity building was provided to these 37 countries during the workshop in Nairobi, three countries selection by COMESA were suported techncally( Kenya, Burkina Faso and Zimbambwe) on environment and climate change statistics and Environment statistics Compedia 2022 Editions were produced and published by Kenya and Burkina Faso

In National Statistics

Office(2016-2018), the missions were to coordinate the production of environmental, agricluture and climate change statistics. During this period, Compedia of Evironment Statistics Edition 2015 and 2016 were produced and publishe by INSBU

2004 to 2007: Burundi Univesity, Faculty of Sciences focussed on Agriculture, livestock and forestry. Diploma of Candidate (Received with 66/100)(2 Years)

2007-2010: Buruni Univesity, Faculty of Agronomy, focussed on Agronomic Sciences. Diploma of Engineer Received with 71/100) (3 years)
