As judicial affairs advisor for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia I have work experience in the UNSOM and UNODC mandates on access to justice and police reform as several of our activities were delivered with UNODC.I reviewed, monitored and analyzed, on an ongoing basis, social, economic and/or political developments and trends relevant to equal access to justice for all, including police reform, and human rights-based and gender-sensitive policing.I participated in the development, implementation and evaluation of project activities, including by supporting needs assessments, programming and other technical missions; organizing a variety of technical assistance activities; providing technical and legal advisory services aimed at promoting police reform.
I provided substantive support for the development of relevant technical and training materials, tools and capacity-building packages, organized and participated in national and regional workshops, seminars and training courses for criminal justice professionals, law enforcement officers and other relevant stakeholders, and deliver presentations, as required, in line with UNSOM technical guidance documents on justice and police reform and the mainstreaming of gender and human rights.
.I ensured close coordination and exchange of information amongst UNSOM staff, national counterparts and donors in the course of project implementation in beneficiary countries, as required; a well as clarifying UNSOM’s work in the field police reform. I drafted reports on project achievements at the levels of activities, outputs and objectives in line with project-specific work plans, UNSOM and donor-related reporting requirements. I conducted research on access to justice and specifically police reform, and prepared other written outputs, such as official correspondence, briefings and presentations.I managed and contributed to the preparation of budgets, monitored and reported on the expenditures and the utilization of financial resources and contributed to financial progress reports, ensuring compliance with UN financial rules and regulations as well as applicable reporting requirements.
