Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) at MAN Energy & Solution Ltd Kenya - at Triumph Power Plant Ltd (2017-09 – 2019-06)
Maintenance Department and Operation Department responsibilities for 10 Hyundai Himsen H32/40 18V Engines and power plant operations.
- Engine routine maintenance: lube oil, fuel oil, charge air, supply/ auxiliary ventilation air filters, radiator cleaning and charge air duct inspection
- General engine inspection: water leaks check, exhaust gas leak, fuel leaks and lube oil leaks
- Engine Inspection: parts condition- liner walls, piston seizure marks, big end bearings free movement, camshaft, all gears, damper, cylinder heads, etc.
- Engine condition analysis: crankshaft deflection-cold/warm, peak pressure, vibration measurement, SFOC and LOSC
- Engine parts evaluation and measurement: wear limits/tolerances of parts e.g valves, pistons, liners, valve guides, fuel pumps, etc.
- Reconditioning/ machining of engine parts e.g. valve seat grinding, valve grinding, liner honing, cylinder head/liner lapping and fuel pump head piece grinding
- Engine operating parameters tabulations e.g. high exhaust gases, main bearing temperature, speeds, etc.
- Engine timing: fuel pump and camshaft
- Engine Tappet clearance
- Engine minor and major overhaul
- Record and compile operational data, completing and maintaining forms, logs & reports
- Receive outage calls & call in necessary personnel during power outages and emergency
- Taking readings from meters & gauges at established intervals & take corrective steps as necessary
- Collect oil and water samples for laboratory analysis
- Start or stop generators, auxiliary, pumping equipment & other power plant equipment & connect or disconnect equipment from circuits
- Regulate equipment operations & conditions such as water levels, based on data from recording and indicating instruments or from computers
- Control generator output to match the phase, frequency & voltage of electricity supplied to the panel
- Make adjustments or minor repairs, such as tightening leaking gland & pipe joints; report any need for major repair
- Monitor and inspect power plant equipment to detect evidence for operating problem
- Open & close valves and switches in sequence upon signals from other workers, in order to start or shut down auxiliary units
- Operate power-generation equipment & machinery during regular operation, maintenance & emergency repair process
- Support boilers & equipment during shut down & start up
- Lubricate equipment and machinery
- Engage in educational training & safety programs

Maintenance responsibilities for machines and equipment.
- Troubleshooting and repairing machines and equipment in the events of breakdown
- Performing autonomous and preventive maintenance plans as per schedules
- Carrying out machines inspection as directed by plans/ schedules
- Testing mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance
- Diagnosing faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs and offering suggestions to maintain engineer for further action
- Installing, servicing and maintaining of bearing, oil seals and mechanical seals
- Servicing and maintaining boiler and screw type air compressors
