As a child social worker, my focus is on assisting children and families, especially those with living situations that put the children at risk of neglect or abuse
My job involves identifying and monitoring the well-being of at-risk children, providing counseling to improve the social and psychological function of children and their families, arranging adoptions and foster homes for children, and acting as a liaison between a school and its at-risk families.
I chose to become a child social worker because I believe that social work is grounded in pursuing social justice, and that social workers have unique and privileged opportunities to assist people to claim their rights and to improve their circumstances
. I am passionate about helping silenced children be heard for the first time and making a positive impact on their lives
