I am a multidisciplinary researcher and consultant specialising in fisheries, environmental sustainability, and natural resource management, holding an MSc in Fisheries and a strong foundation in applied aquatic science. My work bridges scientific research, quantitative analysis, and policy development to address complex challenges across food systems, climate resilience, and aquaculture — applying statistical modelling, GIS, and remote sensing to generate evidence that drives informed decision-making. I support governments, NGOs, and research institutions through remote consulting in research design, data analytics (R, GIS), policy analysis, and technical reporting, taking a systems-oriented approach that connects science, governance, and implementation to deliver actionable, evidence-based solutions.
Part-Time Lecturer | Kisii University | September 2023 – Present
Delivers undergraduate instruction in project management and planning, research methods, and natural resources and environmental science.
Responsibilities extend beyond the classroom to include academic mentoring of undergraduate students and participation in community outreach programmes, supporting the university's engagement with applied fisheries and environmental education.
Sub-County Fisheries Officer | Kisii County Government | July 2022 – Present
Serves as the principal fisheries and aquaculture officer at sub-county level, with responsibilities spanning research, policy, and capacity building. Designs and implements research studies integrating environmental, agricultural, and aquaculture systems, applying advanced analytical tools including R, GIS, ANOVA, regression, and time-series forecasting to generate field-based evidence. Develops policy briefs, technical reports, and evidence-based recommendations that inform county-level decision-making, and supports climate risk assessments and sustainability evaluations across natural resource sectors.
A key achievement in this role has been the successful operationalisation of national fisheries and aquaculture policies at the county level, translating broad policy frameworks into locally applicable strategies. Additionally leads stakeholder training and capacity-building programmes promoting sustainable aquaculture practices, and advises on the integration of scientific findings into programme design and implementation.
AFIWEL Fellow | African Fish Welfare Initiative | November 2024 – December 2025
Contributed to a continental initiative focused on advancing fish welfare standards across African aquaculture systems.
Key responsibilities included supporting the development and policy integration of fish welfare frameworks, conducting stakeholder engagement and technical training programmes, and contributing to the design of welfare-compliant aquaculture systems and supply chains. This fellowship represented a significant contribution to an emerging area of fisheries governance with growing international policy relevance.
Research Scientist Intern | Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), Kegati | January 2015 – November 2017
Gained foundational research experience through a project assistant role on internationally funded fisheries research projects, supported by JICA, IFAD, and the University of Nagasaki. Developed practical skills in field-based scientific research within a nationally recognised marine and fisheries research environment.
MSc in Fisheries | Kisii University | February 2018 – July 2021
Completed on an African Development Bank scholarship. Developed advanced expertise in fisheries science, quantitative research methods, and natural resource management, with a strong foundation in applied aquatic systems and evidence-based policy.
BSc in Applied Aquatic Science | Egerton University | August 2010 – December 2014
Undergraduate training in aquatic biology, fisheries ecology, and environmental science, providing the scientific foundation for subsequent professional and postgraduate work in fisheries and natural resource management.
Specialised Training in Food Safety and Risk Assessment | COHESA Fellowship | March 2025 – July 2025
Completed as part of the Capacity Building for One Health in Eastern and Southern Africa (COHESA) fellowship programme, with focused training in food safety frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and One Health approaches linking human, animal, and environmental health.
Specialised Training in Fish and Animal Welfare | AFIWEL Fellowship | 2024 – 2025
Completed as an African Fish Welfare (AFIWEL) Fellow representing Kenya under the African Fish Welfare Initiative. Gained specialised knowledge in fish welfare science, welfare-compliant aquaculture systems, and the integration of animal welfare standards into fisheries policy and practice.
