I am a banker by profession and practice in particular Islamic banking, my banking journey started 15 years ago as a clerk at Barclays bank of Kenya now ABSA, as a clerk my duty was to ensure the accounts were KYC compliant and support the branches to open accounts, issue barclays cards etc. A year into banking I was introduced to LA-RIBA banking. As a KYC clerk I found this mode of banking very interesting, I learnt a lot on the job. Three years later I joined Gulf African Bank which is a fully Islamic bank, it was like the university of Islamic finance, I was taken through the process and a lot of daily learning baring in mind that it was not only banking but also has a heavy religious inclination in the manner of banking, being the first of its kind, we had a huge task convincing our clients that we were fully Islamic and not a conventional bank. I can convincingly say I am now a master in Islamic banking. currently I am a relationship manager for High networth individuals.
