Responsibilities:

Network Management: You are responsible for ensuring the organization's network is operational, secure, and efficient. This includes configuring routers, switches, and firewalls, monitoring network traffic, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.

Server Administration: IT officers often oversee the setup and maintenance of servers, including file servers, email servers, and web servers. This involves installing and configuring server software, managing user accounts, and ensuring data backups.

Hardware and Software Support: You provide technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software issues. This might involve troubleshooting problems, installing updates, and helping users with software applications.

Security: Maintaining the security of an organization's IT systems is crucial. This includes implementing security policies, conducting regular security audits, and addressing vulnerabilities to protect against data breaches and cyberattacks.

Data Management: IT officers are responsible for data management, including data backup and recovery, data storage, and ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

Software and Hardware Procurement: You may be involved in the selection and procurement of IT equipment and software, ensuring that they meet the organization's needs and budget constraints.

IT Policies and Procedures: Developing and enforcing IT policies and procedures to ensure that the organization's IT environment is standardized and compliant with industry regulations.

User Training: Providing training and guidance to end-users to help them use IT resources effectively and securely.

Ministry of Education, Nairobi, Kenya IT Technician/specialist (VOLUNTEER) January 2021 to April 2021:

• Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers etc.).
• Check computer hardware (HDD, mouses, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality.
• Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications • Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders
