Walter Odondi is a project management professional and an educationist with experience in the TVET education and youth development sector. With a vision of ensuring that youth and children have access to quality education and vocational training, Walter has impacted the lives of 2560 youths and helped them acquire the skills needed for meaningful employment.
In his current role as a Program Officer at Zizi Afrique Foundation in Nairobi, Walter has successfully led the implementation of the TVET Values and Life Skills Working Group strategic plan and facilitated regular meetings with all members, resulting in a 100% attendance rate. He has also contributed to the development of new partnerships and increased the network's membership by 20%. In addition, he has supported TVET policy development and implementation and increased public engagement through his writing and publishing efforts.
Walter has also worked as an Associate Consultant at Elim Capital where he completed projects within budget and timeline with a success rate of 95% and contributed to the development of winning proposals and pitches. He also conducted market research projects and delivered presentations to clients, receiving positive feedback.
Prior to his current role, Walter worked as an Assistant Program Officer at Zizi Afrique Foundation where he conducted a national study on Whole Youth Development in Kenya, implemented the annual budget and work plan, and managed 25 TVET partners. He also promoted successful fund-raising activities and established a strong working relationship with the Monitoring Evaluation and Sharing department.
Walter also served as a Youth Peace and Security Advocate at Landsrådet for Norges Barne- og Ungdomsorganisasjoner (LNU) in Oslo where he trained member organizations on extremism, advocacy, and organizational development and engaged youth networks and groups in project development and implementation.
In five years, Walter sees himself in a leadership role within his current organization, continuing to develop his skills and knowledge through training and professional development opportunities. He is also open to new opportunities to make an even greater impact.
Walter coordinates the TVET advocacy networks like; Values and Life Skills Working Group, Catholic TVET networks, and partner TVETs to generate TVET advocacy initiatives, including but not limited to informing parliamentary bills and policies to contribute to policy development and implementation at county and national levels. Write and publish blogs, articles, policy briefs, and journals with the intention of rebranding TVET. Support annual planning and budget, including the development of a TVET program logframe, and implementation of activities.
Lead the MELS component of the TVET program, including conducting monitoring activities, updating the
MELS data/log including the project risk matrix
Walter is a holder of an MSc in Project management, from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology the choice of this course was informed by the knowledge of the training giving one the ability to develop a specialized skill set to be able to oversee a diverse team while communicating to keep on track. this in itself is a big leadership boost as it has enabled him to work well with teams while focusing on the goal
