Backend & Integration Engineer (Payments / APIs / Cloud)

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Backend & Integration Engineer who will play a key role in the development and operation of tokenization and payment platforms.

This role is code-oriented, with a strong emphasis on server-side development, but the most critical responsibility is supporting customers during integrations: explaining APIs, describing payment flows, troubleshooting requests and responses, and analyzing logs to identify issues.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with customers, understands API-driven payment systems, and has solid experience operating services in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role will also involve collaboration with our CISO on selected security and cloud-related activities.

Objectives to Achieve

• Design, develop, and extend server-side functionality for payment and tokenization services
• Support customers and partners during API integrations, from design to go-live
• Act as a technical point of reference for explaining flows, APIs, and expected behaviors
• Identify, analyze, and resolve integration, deployment, and runtime issues
• Contribute to the reliability, security, and scalability of our cloud infrastructure

Main Activities

Backend Development

• Design, develop, and maintain server-side components and APIs
• Implement new functionality and improve existing services
• Ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability of backend systems
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams on architecture and design

Customer Integration & Technical Support

• Assist customers during API integration phases
• Explain API contracts, request/response structures, and payment/tokenization flows
• Analyze logs, traces, and metrics to troubleshoot integration issues
• Diagnose malformed requests, incorrect configurations, and unexpected responses
• Provide clear technical explanations and recommendations to customers and partners

Cloud & Operations

• Deploy, operate, and troubleshooting services running on Google Cloud Platform
• Work with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Monitor systems and participate in incident analysis and resolution
• Identify infrastructure or configuration improvements

Security & Compliance Support

• Collaborate with the CISO on selected cloud and security activities
• Support secure deployment practices and access controls
• Assist with security reviews, audits, or incident investigations when needed
• Ensure backend services follow internal security and compliance guidelines

Background & Experience

Required

• Proven experience as a Backend Engineer, Integration Engineer, or similar role
• Strong experience developing server-side applications and APIs
• Experience supporting customer or partner integrations
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, especially with logs and API traƯic
• Experience working with cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-internal teams

Technical Skills

• Backend development using one or more of the following: o Java, Spring
• Experience Git/BitBucket, and Jenkins
• API design and integration (REST, JSON)
• Understanding of authentication, and secure API access
• Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and debugging distributed systems
• Basic understanding of payments, tokenization, or financial systems is a strong plus

Nice to Have

• Kubernetes experience (GKE preferred)
• Experience in payment systems, fintech, or financial services
• Exposure to security standards (PCI-DSS, tokenization, secure data handling)
• Experience working with customers across diƯerent regions and time zones
