Christopher Richardson

A solar design engineer in Malaysia with two years of experience in the industry, primarily focusing on commercial & industrial projects. Working in the C&I space specifically has afforded me the opportunity to design a wide variety of PV systems carefully catered to the needs of individual clients while navigating space, shading, and other environmental constraints that may present themselves. I have also taken an active role in the crafting of performance predictions and guarantees to clients for contractual purposes, as well as the monitoring and performance analysis of commissioned systems.

My work experience is coupled with an educational background in general engineering, fossil fuels, energy generation, as well as environmentally focused subjects covering the carbon cycle and climate change.

Solar Design Engineer | ERS Energy Sdn. Bhd. | December 2020 - Present

• Designed rooftop, ground-mounted and solar carport PV systems for residential, commercial & industrial projects of various sizes up to 3MW in Malaysia and other APAC countries.
• Most commonly worked-on design documents include PV layouts, single-line-diagrams (SLDs), DC and AC cable routes, as well as the required calculation reports for sizing of electrical components where needed
• Prepared PVsyst and Helioscope reports, and took an active role in working with the sales team in the shaping of performance guarantees for contractual purposes
• Explored using SketchUp for more efficient and accurate shading analysis, pushed for team-wide use of the software and trained new and old staff upon official adoption of the software by the company
• Performed analysis of client energy consumption when needed for self-consumption PV systems
• Performed performance calculations for commissioned projects & prepared the relevant reports for clients, as well as investigating any issues with performance when found.
• Conducted site visits when required to assess potential projects as well as inspect projects mid and post installation.
• Trained and acted as a team leader for new staff in the design team, while reporting to the Head of Design
