About this course
It is for people preparing rooms and surfaces before painting or finishing starts. You will read coating requirements, assess substrate and access, and create a readiness card with protection, materials, hazards, defects, and next owner. On site, the team can see what is ready, blocked, or awaiting confirmation. This module introduces the painter's workflow from reading a work order and walking the area to protecting surfaces, checking the substrate and preparing a clear first-day handoff. You will make a first practical win before minute 5 by completing a room-readiness card that turns a vague painting task into controlled work. Preparation determines whether a coating can bond, cover and remain attractive. This module covers cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, moisture awareness, surface-specific decisions, dust control, primer selection within the approved system and inspection before application. This module covers practical application choices and habits for brush, roller and spray work. You will learn to read the product and scope, estimate coverage, maintain a wet edge, control cut-in and back-roll, respect recoat and pot-life limits, protect adjacent surfaces and inspect the coat before moving on. This module teaches a painter to inspect a finish, classify common defects, identify likely causes without overclaiming, choose a controlled correction and communicate open items. You will work with runs, holidays, flashing, lap marks, pinholes, poor adhesion, contamination and touch-up boundaries. The final module connects safe work, material planning, time estimates, communication, cleanup and closeout. You will learn to identify common hazards, plan labour and quantity assumptions, coordinate occupied spaces, leave a clean site, document exceptions and present a credible painting work sample in an interview.
