Tertiary level of healthcare with bed capacity of 435. Working in the Male Medical Ward with 10 bed spaces, handling adult male patients for 36 to 48 hours per week.
- Assessment & Care Planning: Assess patients' conditions and needs, then develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Monitoring: Observe and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation), interpret symptoms, and monitor patient health.
- Treatments & Procedures: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors, including infusions and IVs. Perform procedures like catheterization, cannula insertion, administering enemas, and running diagnostic tests such as ECGs.
- Sample Collection: Collect patient samples for diagnostic tests, including blood, urine, and stool.
- Team Communication: Communicate patient status, symptoms, and changes to the medical team (doctors and nurse practitioners).
- Discharge Planning: Work with the team, community services and families to ensure smooth and safe patient discharge planning and arrangements.
- Patient & Family Education: Provide patients and their families with education, support, and reassurance regarding their illness, treatment, and care management.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, including medical history, symptoms, and progress.
- Equipment: Have competency to operate and maintain medical equipment used for patient care and diagnostic purposes.
- Admissions & Discharges: Manage the processes for admitting new patients and handling patient discharges.
- Supervision: Supervise and guide junior nurses, nursing students, and unqualified staff, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to provide safe care.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, and ensure high standards of care are maintained by the nursing team.

Secondary level of care. Worked in General Ward (2020-2024), High Dependency Unit (2018-2020), and General Out Patient (2015-2018). Handled 9 bed spaces and 55 outpatients per day with 36 to 48 hours per week. Managed adults, adolescents and paediatric patients.
- Conducting and ABCD assessment for all patients
- Developing detailed patient-focused plan of care and involving the team in patient management
- Monitoring of patients' observation and quick identification of deterioration and any subtle changes in medical condition.
- Prompt escalation of patients' condition when necessary.
- Administering medications through oral, intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous routes, adhering to the rules of administration using the 6Rs.
- Delivering regular updates of patient's progress to the team, patients themselves and their relatives/NOKs. I promptly report changes to patient's physiological, psychological and clinical changes.
- Performing approved diagnostic or therapeutic procedures according to the patient's clinical status.
- I collect samples as ordered Responding to health emergencies when called upon and alert appropriate doctors.
- I deploy my skills in BLS, ACLS etc to attend to emergencies.
- Evaluating patient's laboratory data and vital signs to determine emergency intervention needs

- Maintain patient records: accurate and detailed records of patient information, treatment procedures, medication administration, and symptom management interventions. I ensure timely and complete documentation in compliance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
- Patient Education and Counseling: I play a critical role in educating patients and their families about the cancer diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and self-care during and after treatment. I provide emotional support, answer questions, and offer resources for further information and support.
- Recording of all patient data as regards services like vital sign, input and output chart.
- Close monitoring of patients on medical monitors, and Telemetry and promptly reporting changes
- Oxygen administration when indicated and ordered
- Adequate recording and documentation of nursing care and patient's data into the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Ensures that all investigations prescribed for patients are done
- Providing wound care, bed making & general cleanliness of the ward and patients on admission,
- Catheterization of male and female patients.
- Cannulation and securing of IV access and administration of iv drugs and other infusions as ordered
- Collection of Data for Research studies mostly retrospectively
- Coordinated and supervised nursing students on clinical placements/postings
- Pre and post-operative care and monitoring of patients, blood transfusion & suctioning where necessary.
- Pressure ulcer prevention & involved in patient transfer with transport
- Assisted patients with activities of daily living where and when necessary.
- Good use of Excel, power point and Microsoft word packages for reporting, documentation and clinical presentations.
