I am a Physiotherapist and Certified patient Care Assistant with Care Certificate 15 Standard (Health and Fitness) offering excellent stress management skills and ability to function well both independently and in team setting. At University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where i worked as an Intern Physiotherapist for one year, I assess patients' physical abilities, supervise technical and support staff, administer evaluative tests and procedures, plan physiotherapy programs, select appropriate exercises, apparatus and manipulations, Maintain clinical and progress reports, confer with other health professionals and teach or supervise exercises to patients. I am pride in ensuring that my work is always completed to a high standard and can maintain an organized environment.
Often managing multiple requests at once, comfortable multitasking, working on my own initiative unsupervised, and working with other teams to ensure that patients are kept happy in our service.
I am flexible, positive, compassionate, respectful, and caring approach and good communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of the needs of older people and the desire to make a positive contribution to the lives of others.
Furthermore, i have the ability to work on a rostered shift basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays, with the flexibility to respond to the requirements to provide 24-hour care
Experience in a wide range of specialities
I have experience in different areas of Physiotherapy such as Neurology Physiotherapy, Geriatrics, community based Rehabilitation, Acute medicine, Respiratory, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric and Orthopaedic Physiotherapy at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada FCT, Abuja and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH).
I completed my 12 months rotational posting on community based rehabilitation, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, paediatrics, ICU and respiratory physiotherapy at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, FCT, Abuja, Nigeria.
I have five months of musculoskeletal (sport) outpatients’ management experience at football club (FC) Ifeanyi Ubah Anambra State, Nigeria.
I worked individually in making physical diagnosis from assessments, formulating and implementing a treatment plan and re-evaluating patients’ progress in various conditions:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Ischemic and Haemorrhagic Stroke (CVD)
Poliomyelitis/Post-polio
Improving on their cardiovascular status
I also organize Health Promotion Program (exercise) for young adult older adults and elderly, for weight reduction and improving on their cardiovascular status and balance and coordination
Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
I am someone who can liaise effectively and work in accordance to team objective as when delivering health care services, setting specific, achievable, measurable, realistic and time bounded goals, knowing my boundaries, accommodating other members, take responsibility for my actions and I am always accountable for them. These has helped me when working in the multidisciplinary teams and support staff.
For example, in my current place of work, clinical meeting are held every last Thursday of the month where every member of health practitioner present on successful case managed by multidisciplinary team, morbidity and mortality. Team comes together to review, analysis and discuss several cases so to identify adverse outcomes associated with medical error, modify behaviours and judgement based on a previous experience and to prevent repetition of errors leading to complications. Here i present on physiotherapy role to members of the multidisciplinary team.
Experience working in a broad range of clinical placements
I commenced my professional career as a band 5 physiotherapist at University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, FCT Abuja, Nigeria
I worked in different variety of Physiotherapy Specialties including Neurology (Parkinson’s disease, Poliomyelitis, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease etc.), Orthopaedics (Fracture, Joint Replacements), Paediatrics (Erb’s, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD), Respiratory Intensive Care (Congestive heart failure, COPD, Restructive Pulmonary disease), Geriatric (Alzheimer’s disease, balance disorders, Incontinence, cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis etc.) and musculoskeletal (MSK) (Sprain, Strain, dislocation and subluxation), where I managed different cases and care for them.
Some experience as a basic grade
As a student, I went through broad theoretical and practical knowledge of physiotherapy with clinical postings on over 2000 hours in Neurology, paediatrics intensive care unit, psychiatry, sports medicines orthopaedics, community based physiotherapy and obstetrics and gynaecology, assessment, diagnoses, treatment and review patient progress with evidence based practice and outcome measure which were all done under supervision.
During my degree, I have completed six month clinical placements within five different health boards (Neuro psychiatry Hospital Enugu Nigeria, Orthopaedics Hospital Enugu, Nigeria, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojikwu Teaching Hospital Awka, Anambra State Nigeria, Salvation Army Rehabilitation Centre Oji River Enugu Nigeria and Football Club (FC) Ifeanyi Ubah Anambra State (Nigeria).
These placements have encompassed the core areas of physiotherapy alongside more specialised services.
