Barrister Mariam M. Abdu is a British Trained lawyer with over 15 years of experience in human rights activism and legal practice. She works in the areas of women's human rights advocacy and has served on several advisory and steering committees- including the Nigerian Feminists Forum, Musawah Global Vision and Baobab for Women's Human Rights.
She has worked in Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center, The Interfaith Mediation Center, Karuna Center for Peacebuilding to name a few. She has consulted for various organizations including The Center for Peace Democracy and Development ( University of Massachusetts) , The Institute for Integrated Transitions, (Barcelona, Spain), UNIFEM, and The Federation of Women Lawyers.
In 2011, Barrister Mariam Abdu founded Women and Children's Rights and Empowerment Foundation, and Non Governmental Organization where she continues to advocate for the welfare and protection of women and children in Nigeria and beyond.
