About

Nko is a customer service professional turned health-care assistant and caregiver. I have worked in clients homes and a care home and volunteering as well for over 5 years. Being the first point of contact with the patients at the hospital I assist to take and document vitals with a smile then direct them to consulting room.

I ensure the patients visit is seamless and follow up with calls where necessary. I carried over skills like empathy, active-listening, patience, time-management, problem-solving etc to my present health-care assistant job where I have also gained medical skills like medical records documentation and management ( safekeeping and confidentiality), equanimity, emotional and social support, focused-care etc and values like dedication, integrity, compassion, accountability etc. I am presently caring for an 87year old man with second stage dementia.

I bed-bath and moisturize his skin daily, I also cook and feed him nutritious meals while encouraging him to drink enough water for easy bowel movements as he is mostly laying on the bed. I also read to him betimes and we sing together too. Excellent communication skills has enabled me develop a trusting relationship with him, his family members.

This has helped me to communicate recommendations to his doctor.

Having taken a break from my career as a customer service representative/ team lead in a call center (for 6years)to care for a loved one, I realized it was a passion I could develope and I achieved Care Certificates from Leads and Florence Academies (on-line) and hands-on training certification including Aged Care and Dementia Care handling( National Care Certificate as Home Health Aide NCCHHA from the American Caregiver Association ACA) and Advanced Professional Caregivers Certificate from Angels Home Care Services. These have assisted me immensely to maximize my skills to consistently and effectively give empathetic, quality and person centered-care with privacy and dignity to clients.

Recorded and monitored Vital Signs, raising concerns where necessary to the Supervisor after documentation. Recommended adjustment in level of care as per individual clients. Monitored clients regularly.

I assist to provide safe and high-quality person-cantered care to Mr Odiong Akpabio, an 87year old who is bedridden and presently in third stage dementia. I feed him small amounts of soft and nutritious meals with adequate water for easy digestion and bowel movement.

2.I bed-bath him and moisturize his skin, also ensuring oral hygiene, clean clothes and beddings. I air his room frequently and assist with laundry and associated chores where necessary. I ensure his wheel chair and other medical equipment are sanitized regularly.

I have developed a trusting relationship overtime with Mr. Odiong resulting in short-length conversations, sing-along and reading to him. This gives him the much-needed emotional support. I assist with ambulation when he requests to be moved about for a bit.
I observe him and document his behaviour while escalating any deterioration or concern.
I take his vital signs like respiratory rate, blood pressure and temperature at regular intervals and administer prescribed treatment and report any change.

Collaborate with team members (child carers) and head of department of Children Church via effective communication for the smooth-running during services by monitoring, feeding, change of clothing and other duties as they arise.
Dispense drugs and treat minor cuts and bruises. Achieving a certificate from Florence Academy on Safeguarding Children (Child Protection) has impacted required knowledge for this.
As per age group, I teach the children weekly using writing materials, visual aids, videos etc, using prescribed curriculum.
Collaborate with teachers/carers to generate monthly curriculum used to engage children that include informal and formal education. Participate in monthly previews of topics taught the children per age group, 2-4years, 5-7years, 8-9years, 10-13years. Teenagers and young adults are in separate classes.
