About

I am an enthusiastic and hardworking medical professional with over ten years of experience in patient care. I am competent and able to work effectively under pressure with limited supervision and as part of a team. My goal is to train as a histopathologist so as to contribute to the advancement of pathology knowledge which is the basis of understanding, diagnosing and treatment of human diseases.

Experience

Locum Bank Senior House Officer at Bristol Royal Infirmary, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (2024-10 – Present)

I work at this Trust as a locum SHO in the Emergency department taking mainly night shifts with limited supervision. My role involves attending to patients in the minor injuries unit and majors unit where I assess, resuscitate and stabilize patients. I also request necessary preliminary investigations and institute management following the Trust guidelines.

When necessary, I discuss cases with my seniors to get senior input to my management plan for patients. When decision is made to admit under or seek specialist opinion I also refer accordingly and/or discuss with the specialty concerned. Working in this capacity has not only afforded me the opportunity to assess and manage common case presentation but to also gain confidence in working with minimal supervision.

Senior House Officer at County Hospital, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (2023-11 – 2024-07)

I worked as a clinical fellow in the emergency department where I was responsible for the clerking, assessment, resuscitation and management of patients presenting to the emergency room. Common cases I have diagnosed and instituted management for include acute abdomen, traumatic injuries, burns, acute urinary retention, arrhythmia, stroke, acute severe asthma, sepsis, shock, poisoning and overdose, self harm, myocardial infarction, and diabetic ketoacidosis. I also discuss patients' management with appropriate senior colleagues where necessary to ensure my patients always receive the best care.

As my first job in the UK, this position also provided much needed insight into how the NHS works and helped me familiarize myself with the peculiarities of working in a healthcare setting as vast and diverse, yet integrated, as the NHS.

Senior House Officer at County Hospital, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (2023-03 – 2023-08)

Emergency Resident at Samtah General Hospital (2020-10 – 2022-12)

As the emergency resident, I was the first contact of emergency medical and surgical cases presenting to the ER. The hospital attends to a population of over 50000 people and on the average, I attended to about 50 patients in a day. In addition to my emergency room duties, I attended to patients in the outpatient clinics.

I was also involved in teaching medical students who came to the ER for their clinical postings. Such teaching sessions included history taking, clinical examination, resuscitation, and general approach to management of emergency cases. My over 2years experience working in a busy emergency room in Saudi Arabia exposed me to various cases which has improved my clinical skills and judgment in the face of emergency as well as my ability to work under pressure.

I also gained good interpersonal skills in dealing with my patients.

Anatomic Pathology Resident doctor at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (2019-05 – 2020-10)

I worked as a junior resident in training under consultants and senior residents in the department of Anatomic pathology. My role included tissue grossing, tissue processing and preparation of histologic slides as well as reporting of the slides under the supervision of my seniors. I had the responsibility of overseeing laboratory activities to ensure quick turnaround time for results and counselling patients on possible clinical outcomes and prognosis based on histopathology results.

I was also involved in carrying out autopsies to establish cause of death under the supervision of consultants. I also had three months rotations each in the departments of medical microbiology and haematology and blood transfusion services.

Medical Officer at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital, State Government (2016-02 – 2019-05)

During this period, I worked as a junior doctor in the accidents and emergency unit, departments of obstetrics and gynaecology and plastic surgery unit.

Medical Officer at Federal College of Education, Eha (2014-11 – 2015-11)

This was the period of my mandatory one-year National Youth Service. My duty while working in this centre included clinic consultation for students, members of staff and their families.

House Officer at Federal Medical Centre, Yobe (2013-11 – 2014-11)

This was the period of my internship. We had 3 monthly rotations between General Surgery, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. My duties at this time were to participate in departmental activities such as morning reviews, ward rounds, clinics, theatre sessions, call duties and teaching sessions.

Education

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in MBBS – University of Benin (2013)
