Group Business Manager for Operations and Technology at Ecobank - responsible for various tasks to support the Group Executive Director – Operations and Technology (O&T) run the function across Africa. This is both at strategic as well as day to day operational level. The job entails:
- Developing and cascading Strategy to senior management
- Management of Strategic Initiatives and projects
- Driving performance by developing and implementing Productivity management tools
- Tracking performance by developing performance score cards for senior managers.
- Implementation of Management controls through the implementation and use of management dashboards.
- Tracking and ensuring delivery of cost, people, control & service objectives for the GED
- Preparing various management reports for the GED and Group Management Committees.
- Visit various countries to identify and remedy control and service gaps, draw up action plans and put in place follow up mechanisms to ensure closure of all identified issues.

- 2003 - Joined SCB as a Management Trainee on the International Graduate Program. The program entailed getting attached to various departments within the bank with a view of getting a holistic view of the bank.
- 2004 - Joined Trade Services where I was in-charge of Systems and then Exports and Imports. I worked here for 2 years.
- Here I was a team leader and managed the performance of various teams. Was responsible for ensuring individual as well as team performance for my direct reports.
- Was responsible for ensuring control mechanisms are in place and being strictly enforced through various monthly, quarterly and annual control checks.
- 2006 - Moved into Systems and Processes as a business analyst. Here I was responsible for re-engineering and project management. Some of my key achievements in this unit, among others, were:
- Complete re-engineering of Trade Service and Eximbills in Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Sri-Lanka. This significantly improved efficiency saved costs and strengthened the control environment at Trade Services.
- Automation of reconciliation activities at Trade Services and Cash Operations. Designed and developed a reconciler software that reconciled data from different applications to ensure consistency and accuracy of processing. This also helped to ensure that the files were processed as they were sent for updating into the core systems.
- Designed and developed a complete requests logging, assignment and tracking system for Helpline. This is being used to date.
- Designed and implemented recovery of Next Commission for guarantees in Eximbills. This was the first time this has ever been done in Eximbills.
- Managed the implementation of SCSTAR (messaging system) across Africa.
- Managed the implementation of Mobile Banking across Africa. I was also part of the team that conceptualized the features of the solution.
- Assisted the CIO to manage his team by preparing, cascading and monitoring delivery of yearly objectives for country CIOs and regional heads across Africa.
- 2008 - Appointed as Executive Assistant to CIO Africa where I was responsible for various tasks to support the CIO run Technology and Operations in Africa. This included, among others:
- Follow up on country CIOs to ensure they deliver on their objectives and ensuring performance on key deliverables.
- Cost benefit analysis of various projects, key one amongst them being the decision on movement / consolidation of Shared Service Centres in Accra and Kenya to Chennai.
- Conducting country visits to determine the state of health of Technology and Operations in-country and to identify gaps, recommend remedial measures, track and follow up on action items to ensure that the gaps are closed.
- When issues were identified in countries, undertaking short term assignments to assist improve efficiency or remedy any control gaps.
- Manage various key projects like Mobile Banking from the Operations and Technology perspective.
- Identify any cost saving opportunities and put in place measures to achieve cost savings.
- Tracking delivery of various projects and initiatives across Africa.
- Championing all Technology and Operations projects that were cascaded from the Group office.
- Plan, manage, co-ordinate and anchor strategy sessions like CIO conferences.
- Participated in management decision making process on people management, project delivery, cost management, efficiency improvement etc.
- Identification of cost saving opportunities and championing these.
- Ensuring delivery of performance by various teams under the CIO.
- Review of Structures and recommending adjustments to deliver improved productivity and better span of control.
- I was seconded on a Short Term Assignment to Tanzania to double up as Head of Trade Tanzania to address various challenges on the ground (low team morale, low productivity, performance challenges, skills gap, controls gaps, and lack of customer service mindset). I was successfully able to turn the situation around and raise the teams performance to become amongst the best in Africa.
- 2010 - Regional Service Quality and Implementation Manager for Client Service Group – Africa. Responsible for ensuring that clients received world class service and also implemented various projects. My role here involved making sure that there are check and reports in place to ensure that service staff are productive and efficient in their work.
