About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Mid Backend Developer with strong hands-on experience in Java to join an international technology environment in Amsterdam.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the design, development, testing, deployment and production support of scalable backend applications and services. You will work across the full software lifecycle, contributing to the delivery of reliable, maintainable and high-performing enterprise-grade solutions.
This role combines strong technical development skills with end-to-end service ownership, including application monitoring, troubleshooting, performance optimisation, incident resolution and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable and maintainable backend applications and services using Java.
- Contribute to software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practices.
- Develop and maintain APIs and backend services.
- Implement unit, integration and other relevant testing methodologies.
- Take ownership of applications throughout the complete software lifecycle.
- Monitor application performance, identify issues and implement improvements.
- Troubleshoot production incidents and perform root cause analysis (RCA).
- Support deployment and release activities.
- Contribute to coding standards, quality assurance processes and platform enhancements.
- Ensure backend services remain reliable, scalable and resilient.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within an agile and collaborative environment.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java.
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
- Knowledge of backend architecture and design patterns.
- Experience developing and integrating APIs and services.
- Understanding of software testing methodologies.
- Experience with production support, troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
- Ability to analyse incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Experience working across the full software development lifecycle.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- English proficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering or a related field.
