Java Engineer

About the Role

Salt Digital Recruitment is hiring a Java Engineer for a client based in Amsterdam. This role focuses on developing and maintaining software applications using modern development frameworks and engineering best practices. The position can be performed remotely from within Europe. The successful candidate will have strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL and/or NoSQL databases, along with experience in automated testing, scalable system design, and software architecture. You will collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams while contributing to technical decisions, continuous delivery, operational processes, and production issue resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software applications using modern development frameworks and best practices.
• Write clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Implement and maintain automated testing to support software quality.
• Participate in system design, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making.
• Monitor application performance and troubleshoot production issues.
• Contribute to incident resolution and root cause analysis.
• Document technical issues, resolutions, and relevant system information.
• Support continuous delivery, deployment, and operational processes.
• Collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams to deliver business requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, development processes, and systems.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 3–5 years of software development experience.
• Strong experience with Java.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot.
• Strong experience with Kafka.
• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with test automation.
• Experience with scalable system design.
• Good understanding of software architecture.
• Good understanding of distributed systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills.
