Daniël Beelen

My thesis research explored the potential of freshwater harvesting from fog using mash nets. For this research, I worked with large global meteorological datasets in Python, where I applied spatial interpolation technique to investigate spatial variability in water collection potential. After obtaining my Master’s degree, I started working for Stevens Ingenieurs, a civil engineering consultancy specializing in hydrologic infrastructure.

This experience improved my structured approach to problem-solving, interdisciplinary collaboration, and communication of technical information. While I highly value this practical experience, I have realised that my strongest motivation lies in research and data-driven problem solving. I am energised by exploring datasets, discovering the stories behind the numbers, and translating analyses into actionable insights.

I am therefore seeking an opportunity where I can further develop my research skills.

Hydrologic Engineer at Stevin Ingenieurs (2025 – Present)

At Stevin Ingenieurs, I am part of a versatile civil engineering firm with specialized expertise in hydraulic engineering. Here we support clients from the initial planning phase through to project management, with practical expertise in all disciplines of civil engineering. In my current role as hydrological engineer I create and edit technical drawings of civil engineering structures in AutoCAD, participate in field inspections of hydrological infrastructure, contribute to technical documentation such as management plans, permits, and risk assessments, and work with large spatial datasets in QGIS

Olympic Training Centre Chef at Topsport Amsterdam (2023 – 2025)

As part of the kitchen team at the Olympic training centre (OTC) in Amstelveen, i was responsible for preparing and delivering healthy meals for various TeamNL disciplines. Additionally, i have provided onsite support during international events, such as the World Rowing Championships in Lucerne.
