My name is Maiko Shigematsu. I am a 23 year old graduate of the College of Literature as an English Literature major from Aoyama Gakuin University and have a Bachelor of Arts in Literature.
Because the purpose of me being in the Netherlands is to learn more about the country and people, I am interested in a position such as Barista as this provides an excellent opportunity for me to interact with many people, practice dutch and gain greater knowledge about life in the Netherlands.
I would describe myself as someone who is very eager to learn and proactive. At my former job, I made a manual of the system my team used after working there for less than 6 months. I love communicating with others and to make sure that I make them feel heard through spending time with me.
One of my previous jobs was as a bilingual teacher for kids through kindergarten to elementary. This was a valuable experience for me as I was able to connect with the students and earn their trust not just as a teacher but also as someone they can rely on. I am very passionate and will give it my all to what I put my mind on.
I would like to put these characteristics to use within your company. My experience as a cashier at Tully’s coffee, convenient store and fitness gym has provided me with experience and expertise in serving and assisting customers and therefore I believe to be able to make a valuable contribution to the position of Barista.
Throughout the last 3 years of college I was able to earn As and AAs in most of my classes and have been active throughout my educational career in activism. Some of my initiatives include establishing a branch in our university of a Gender Organization called Voice Up Japan and becoming a messenger of peace for Japan, which gave me the opportunity to speak at the UN in Geneva about peace. I am very passionate about making the world a better place and have the drive to take action.
