Backend Developer with Java experience to join our small team!
What You'll DoCollaborate directly with our CTO (Nic) and co-founder (Christine) as the lead for ReciMe's backend, driving new innovative features and improvements in scalability, latency, and data architecture.Own and deliver key projects like:Designing and leading the rollout of a multilingual localization system.Developing a fully integrated, shoppable grocery list feature.Integrating with external supermarket APIs.Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies - including generative AI.Debugging edge cases, enhancing parsing accuracy, and optimizing performance to support thousands of diverse recipes.
What You BringA bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.3+ years of backend development experience using Java and the Spring framework (or equivalent).Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to solve engineering problems and accelerate development workflows.Strong familiarity with LLMs or NLP frameworks to implement AI-driven features.Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, ideally on AWS.Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing tools (e.g.
Pipelines, Terraform).Detail-oriented problem-solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and ORM tools like Hibernate.Confidence working with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations (e.g., Firebase).Ability to create and maintain API documentation (e.g., Postman, Notion).Strong Git skills and familiarity with agile development practices (e.g., Jira).Bonus: Startup experience or a desire to wear many hats and own your work.
