Backend Software Developer

Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Backend Software Developer to join our agile engineering team.

In this role, you will be responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining the core backend systems that power our platform and internal tooling. You will focus on delivering high-quality, reliable services with strong architectural foundations, ensuring system stability and long-term maintainability.

You will work extensively with Python-based services, contributing to API development, infrastructure automation, and Linux-based environments. This role requires a strong engineering mindset, with an emphasis on clean architecture, automated testing, and operational reliability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Platform Engineering

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python, preferably with FastAPI
• Build scalable, high-performance systems that support platform growth and reliability
• Translate product and technical requirements into robust backend solutions

API Design & Development

• Design and implement high-performance RESTful APIs
• Ensure APIs are well-documented, maintainable, and optimized for frontend and service integration
• Maintain consistency and scalability across service interfaces

System Architecture & Engineering Quality

• Contribute to architectural decisions and system design
• Ensure code quality through best practices, peer reviews, and structured QA processes
• Build maintainable, modular, and scalable backend systems

Quality Assurance & Stability

• Take ownership of system reliability and performance
• Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks, including:
• Unit tests
• Integration tests
• End-to-end testing
• Continuously improve system resilience and reduce failure points

Linux & Infrastructure Management

• Manage and configure Linux-based environments for development and production
• Support deployment processes and ensure system stability
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application-level issues

Automation & DevOps Practices

• Use Docker to containerize applications and standardize environments
• Implement infrastructure automation using Ansible
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows

Team Collaboration & Training

• Work within an agile, remote-first engineering team
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product teams, and infrastructure engineers
• Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and code reviews
• Contribute to documentation and internal knowledge sharing

Shift & Availability Requirements

• Remote role based in the Philippines
• Working hours aligned with European time zones
• Standard working hours: 02:00 – 10:00 CET (09:00 – 17:00 PHT)
• During onboarding and initial training, working hours will be 09:00 – 17:00 CET (Approx. 15:00 PM – 00:00 AM PHT)
• Participation in an on-call rotation may be required, hardware will be provided

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Professional experience in backend software development. 2-5 years of experience in Python
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Experience building backend services using FastAPI (or similar frameworks)
• Demonstrated experience specifically with FastAPI framework for building backend services is required
• Strong understanding of Linux systems, including shell scripting and server administration
• Intermediate-level Linux scripting capabilities are required for system configuration and maintenance tasks
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized environments
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible
• Strong experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Pytest)
• Solid understanding of scalable system design and distributed systems
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows

Desirable

• Experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ
• Proficiency with Pydantic for data validation and configuration management
• Experience using SQLAlchemy or similar ORM tools
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
