What You Will Do Contribute to Software Development
You Will
- Support the development and improvement of product features and internal systems.
- Write clean, understandable, and maintainable code with guidance from more experienced engineers.
- Work on appropriately scoped engineering tasks that allow you to gradually take greater ownership as you develop.
- Participate in debugging and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Gain practical exposure to the software development lifecycle , from understanding requirements through development, testing, code review, and deployment.
- Learn how engineers work with existing codebases rather than only building projects from scratch.
- Receive feedback through code reviews and use it to continuously improve your work.
- Develop better habits around testing, documentation, version control, and code quality.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to understand requirements and translate them into working solutions.
- Participate in relevant team discussions, technical sessions, and engineering rituals.
- Ask questions, seek feedback, and communicate clearly when you encounter blockers.
- Learn how engineering decisions connect to actual product and business needs.
You should be comfortable with at least one programming language and have some exposure to concepts such as:
- Web or application development
- APIs and client-server architecture
- Databases and basic data structures
- Git or other version-control tools
- Testing and debugging
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering , or another relevant program.
- Foundational knowledge of programming and software-development concepts.
- Experience building software through academic projects, personal projects, hackathons, student organizations, or previous internships .
- Ability to break down problems logically and work through possible solutions.
- Willing to render a minimum of 480 internship hours (we are open to extend longer if more than 480 hours is required by your academic institution)
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and seek help when needed.
- Receptive to feedback and able to apply it to subsequent work.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Genuine interest in building technology and understanding how software works beyond the classroom.
- Experience building a web or mobile application.
- Exposure to frontend and/or backend development.
- Experience working with APIs, databases, or cloud technologies.
- Familiarity with collaborative development using Git/GitHub.
- A portfolio, GitHub repository, capstone, or personal project that demonstrates how you approach building software.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of the internship, we would expect you to have:
- Contributed meaningful work to real engineering projects.
- Improved the quality and structure of your code through feedback and code reviews.
- Developed greater confidence navigating an existing codebase.
- Demonstrated increasing independence in completing appropriately scoped tasks.
- Built stronger debugging and problem-solving habits.
- Learned how a professional engineering team collaborates to build and maintain production software.
- Demonstrated curiosity, reliability, and consistent growth throughout the internship.
The goal is not simply to give you tasks to complete, but to provide an environment where you can apply what you’ve learned in school, understand professional software engineering practices, and develop the foundations needed for an early-career engineering role after graduation .
