Odoo Developer (Python / ERP Integrations)

Job Description

Level Up Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Odoo Developer for our UK-based client, My 1st Years, a personalised gifting business specialising in customised products for babies and children.

This role will take ownership of a highly customised Odoo ERP platform supporting e-commerce, order processing, personalisation, manufacturing, inventory, warehouse fulfilment, shipping, and back-office operations. The successful candidate will maintain and enhance existing systems, resolve complex technical issues, develop integrations, and contribute to long-term ERP improvement and migration planning.

The ideal candidate has strong Python and Odoo development expertise, experience with complex system integrations, and the ability to independently manage business-critical technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Odoo ERP Development & Customisation

Develop, maintain, and enhance custom modules within the Odoo 11 Community Edition framework.

Work with Odoo ORM, model inheritance, computed fields, onchange methods, security rules, QWeb reports, and wizards.

Support workflows across Sales, Manufacturing (MRP), Inventory, Purchasing, Point of Sale, HR, Accounting, and third-party logistics.

Troubleshoot issues involving stock movements, warehouse pickings, manufacturing work orders, routing, and cycle counts.

Ensure code quality, maintainability, documentation, and compatibility across interconnected modules.

• API Development & Systems Integration

Maintain and enhance two-way integrations between Odoo and the Laravel-based OrderLayer/Engine middleware.

Support order processing, shipment updates, tracking details, inventory synchronisation, and related documentation.

Develop and troubleshoot REST API integrations with external platforms and service providers.

Resolve failed requests, synchronisation issues, missing updates, and data inconsistencies.

Maintain integrations involving Global-e, ShipStation, Evri, eTrak, PrimeGroup, and other operational partners.

Support SFTP/FTP integrations and implement reliable error handling, logging, retries, and monitoring.

• Asynchronous Processing & Messaging

Maintain background processing using Celery and RabbitMQ/AMQP messaging.

Troubleshoot delayed, failed, duplicated, or incomplete tasks.

Improve task scheduling, queue management, retries, worker performance, and processing reliability.

Address concurrency, message handling, and idempotency issues affecting critical workflows.

• Manufacturing, Personalisation & Fulfilment

Support ERP workflows for personalised product production, artwork generation, and embroidery operations.

Maintain integrations between Odoo and external embroidery-related services.

Resolve technical issues affecting production readiness, order progression, and fulfilment.

Support Python-based services, including FastAPI applications.

Maintain artwork and document-generation processes involving SVG and PDF.

Collaborate with operational teams to translate manufacturing challenges into practical technical solutions.

• Database Management & Performance Optimisation

Write, maintain, and optimise PostgreSQL queries.

Investigate database performance issues affecting order processing, inventory, and reporting.

Troubleshoot database locking, concurrency, and data consistency problems.

Support SQL-based reports and data extraction requirements.

Recommend improvements to database performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• System Maintenance & Technical Support

Investigate and resolve complex ERP defects, integration failures, and operational incidents.

Conduct root-cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes.

Monitor application errors, background workers, scheduled jobs, and integration logs.

Assess technical risks associated with changes to business-critical workflows.

Document incidents, resolutions, and technical handover requirements.

Coordinate with technical colleagues and business stakeholders to prioritise issues.

• Legacy Platform Management & ERP Migration

Maintain the existing Odoo 11 environment while accounting for its end-of-life status.

Identify technical debt, security risks, compatibility limitations, and system dependencies.

Support future Odoo upgrade and migration assessments.

Work with Odoo Community Association (OCA) modules, OpenUpgrade-related tools, and custom migration scripts.

Evaluate migration challenges involving custom modules, integrations, and operational workflows.

Contribute to a practical roadmap for long-term ERP sustainability.

• Development Operations, Testing & Quality Assurance

Use GitLab and established branching practices to manage development work.

Work with Docker-based development environments and Linux-based systems.

Support development, staging, and release-candidate deployment processes.

Develop and maintain automated tests using Odoo TransactionCase and Python testing tools.

Use mocks, emulators, and integration test environments to validate changes.

Support monitoring, error tracking, worker scaling, and scheduled-job performance.

Follow testing, code review, and release procedures to minimise production risks.

• Technical Collaboration & Documentation

Work closely with the Development Lead, technical team, and operational departments.

Translate business requirements into technical solutions and realistic development estimates.

Communicate progress, technical issues, risks, and dependencies clearly.

Document custom modules, integrations, workflows, and troubleshooting procedures.

Share technical knowledge and support effective handovers.

Take ownership of assigned development tasks from investigation through deployment and follow-up.

Qualifications

Required Experience

At least 7 years of professional Python development experience.

At least 5 years of hands-on Odoo development and customisation experience.

Experience with Odoo versions 11–17, including older Odoo architectures.

Participation in at least one major Odoo version migration.

Proven experience maintaining complex, business-critical ERP applications.

Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across interconnected systems, services, and integrations.

Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex technical problems.
