• Stands watch on deck department of vessel.
• Operates deck machinery, such as windlass or winches while mooring or unmooring and cargo gear.
• Stands security-related watches, such as a gangway watch or anchor watch while the ship is not underway.
• Performs lookout duty (heavy traffic and restricted visibility) in bridge, if needed.
• Cleans and performs maintenance on ship.
• Works with deck equipment.
• Identifies and removes rust accumulations. Scale, buff, and paint decks.
• Refinishes affected areas with sealants, primers, and paints to slow the oxidation process.
• Scrubs, sweeps, and washes decks.
• Secures or fasten cargo to ship.
• Check cargo for wear and tear, broken or compromised securements, shifting, or any other sorts of noncompliance.
