Being the Circulation Manager and Writer of our campus paper for three years honed me to excel not just in the field of journalism but in all aspects of life. Working as a Sci-Tech writer and an editor inspired me to learn how to produce high quality and and error-free articles about Science, Health, and Technology. Part of my role is making sure that facts are concise, unbiased, and reliable.

Science and Technology Writing is one of the most challenging fields in campus journalism as it comes in many forms— Science News, Science Feature, and Science Editorial. With that fact, as a Sci-Tech Writer, I have to adjust to many forms of journalistic write-ups, revise, and even copy edit my own articles before it goes through the eyes of our critiques and readers. Along with other writers, I supervise the production of the tabloid to ensure that the write-ups are free from errors through proofreading and copy editing during press work.

Based on these experiences, I can say that copy editing is the job closest to perfection because you strive for flawlessness by finding mistakes. Becoming a writer and a proofreader taught me to always be on the lookout for not only “better,” but also the “best.”

2. Being the Acting Secretary and one of the Head Commissioners of Northwest Samar State University’s Student Electoral Board (SEB), I became extremely particular and keen when it comes to details. Since SEB is one of the biggest student organization bodies in the university, my writings, particularly my communication letters, become the face of the whole organization. Our credibility as the electoral board is built through the words I deliver on a piece of paper as my write-ups link us to bigger school organizations and offices including the Office of the University President. Because of this experience, I realized that we should not turn a blind-eye to small details like spelling, grammar, and mechanics because they make the most and biggest impact in written communication. I strongly believe as well that knowing and understanding all these things are important to becoming a remarkable Copy Editor.
