Jonathan Isorena is a graduating Railway Engineering student with a strong interest in railway systems, rolling stock, urban mobility, and public transportation planning. His thesis focuses on modifying the seating layout near the gangway area of MRT-3 train cars by partially removing seats and replacing them with handrails to improve passenger flow, standing capacity, and passenger safety through simulation. As he prepares to graduate, he aims to build a career in the railway industry while continuously enhancing his technical and professional skills.
He was involved in both rolling stock maintenance and maintenance management. As a Maintenance Management System Intern at Hitachi Rail STS S.p.A. PH, he contributed to the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project Phase 1 by validating asset data, preparing minutes of meetings, organizing Maintenance Management System (MMS) asset information, and supporting data integration into the IBM Maximo CMMS platform. He also monitored subsystem asset data to improve data accuracy and consistency.
As a Rolling Stock Maintenance Intern at Philippine National Railways, he was involved in documenting maintenance work orders, recording the weekly reports, coordinating repair verification and equipment inspections with workshop personnel, updating inventory records for Electric Multiple Units (EMUs), and improving workshop layout mapping for rolling stock. These experiences strengthened his technical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills while providing practical exposure to railway maintenance operations and asset management.
