- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Calculate dimensions, mark out materials, and plan the layout of components before fabrication.
- Select appropriate materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) and determine the best welding method for the job.
- Inspect materials for defects, ensure they meet quality standards, and prepare surfaces by cleaning, cutting, grinding.
- Cut, shape, bend, and machine metal parts using tools like saws, shears, presses, grinders, and plasma cutters.
- Fit and assemble components using jigs, clamps, or fixtures to ensure correct alignment and fit.
- Tack-weld parts together to hold them in place before final welding.
- Build metal structures, frames, enclosures, pipes, or custom products according to design.
- Perform high-quality welds in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) as required.
- Monitor welding parameters (current, voltage, gas flow, speed) to ensure strong, clean, and defect-free welds.
- Repair or modify damaged metal parts and structures by welding or re-fabrication.
- Ensure welds meet required strength, appearance, and tolerance standards.
- Visually inspect finished welds and fabrications for cracks, porosity, warping, or misalignment.
- Use measuring tools (calipers, rulers, squares, levels) to verify dimensions and accuracy.
- Conduct basic quality checks and ensure work complies with industry standards, safety codes, and customer specifications.
- Rectify any defects or rework parts as needed.
- Set up, adjust, and operate welding machines, torches, regulators, and related equipment correctly.
- Perform routine maintenance: clean tools, check cables, replace consumables (nozzles, electrodes, wire), and ensure machinery is in safe working order.
- Report faulty equipment or safety hazards immediately.
