Trainee Software Developer – Magstar

Division

Located in Toronto, Canada and established in 1986, Magstar supplies Enterprise Resource Planning Software to mid-sized retailers across North America and the Caribbean, primarily in the Wine & Liquor space. Magstar's complete product suite includes Back Office, POS, Mobile POS, Warehouse, and CRM applications. Magstar has been repeatedly recognized as holding an industry-leading position by the Retail Information System's News LeaderBoard.

The Position

We are looking for Trainee Software Developers to join one of our R&D teams. The selected candidates will be trained for 3 to 6 months to become good developers capable of working on enterprise-level applications. Following the completion of the internship period, there is a good chance of securing full-time employment based on satisfactory performance during the internship.

The chosen individuals will work out of the Contour Software Karachi resource center office, as an extension of the division-based R&D department.

Key Responsibilities

• Must be willing to learn a 4GL programming language with Application Generator, which is a legacy rapid-application development platform for building ERP systems.
• Working on different tasks while evaluating the ways to use AI code generation tools to improve the efficiency of the development process.
• Must be willing to learn and work with the Point of Sale application written in C and other applications written in REACT JS.
• Requires working with Account Managers to gather customer requirements, prepare quotes, provide timelines, and modify existing features to meet those requirements
• Liaise with QA and Support personnel to diagnose and fix issues found during QA and in production

Required Qualifications & Skills

• University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or related discipline New/Recent/Soon-to-Graduate Computer Science & Software Engineering graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Take the initiative and manage multiple tasks while not missing deadlines.
• Be able to work alone without supervision as well as in a team environment.
• Strong Knowledge of the Relational Databases, SQL
• Good knowledge of C/C and Linux, Shell Scripting.

Bonus To Have

• Familiarity or interest to learn how to use AI code generation tools (Cursor) is expected, as it may be possible to leverage these tools to help with Appgen programming
• Some knowledge of JavaScript, REACT and REACT Native is a bonus, but not required.
• Basic Linux system administration knowledge is also an asset.
