Job description

  • The Core Components Defined
    • Visual Studio Code (VS Code): A free, lightweight, and powerful source-code editor developed by Microsoft. It acts as your workspace where you write, edit, organize, and debug your code. It features built-in Git support, syntax highlighting, and an extension marketplace.
    • HTML (HyperText Markup Language): The standard markup language used to create the structure and content of a webpage (e.g., text, headings, paragraphs, images, buttons, and links).
    • CSS (Cascading Style Sheets): A stylesheet language used to describe the presentation, design, and styling of an HTML document (e.g., colors, fonts, layouts, spacing, animations, and responsive design for mobile devices).
    2. How They Work Together in VS Code When building a website:
  1. VS Code provides the environment with smart autocomplete (IntelliSense) that predicts your HTML tags and CSS properties as you type.
  2. You write the skeleton of your page using HTML files (e.g., index.html).
  3. You apply styling, colors, and layout rules to that HTML using CSS files (e.g., style.css), linked directly inside your HTML.
3. Essential VS Code Tools for HTML & CSS Development To make writing HTML and CSS in VS Code as fast and efficient as possible, developers rely on built-in features and extensions:
  • Emmet (Built-in): Allows you to write HTML and CSS with blazing speed using shortcuts.
  • Example: Typing ! and pressing Tab in an HTML file instantly generates a complete HTML5 boilerplate template.
  • Live Server (Extension): Automatically launches a local development server with a live reload feature. When you save changes in your HTML or CSS files, your browser updates instantly without needing manual refreshes.
  • Prettier (Extension): Automatically formats your HTML and CSS code to keep your indentation clean and consistent.
  • CSS Peek (Extension): Allows you to "peek" at CSS definitions directly from your HTML file by holding Ctrl (or Cmd) and hovering over class names or IDs.
