My philosophy of teaching is founded on my belief in the power of life-long education and learning and the role of critical theory in successful teaching and learning process. I believe in the strong relationship between power and knowledge and teaching and that education is the crucial vehicle to human empowerment, emancipation and success.
My teaching goals are, to:
- make my students base their learning on the prior knowledge and experience and adopt a problem-centred approach
- help my students become self-directed learners along with developing their critical and reflective thinking
- by using participatory, research-based and experiential learning methods, help my students value their experience and use it as a resource for learning
- make learning become a mean and process of growth and development for my students
- help my students critique themselves and whatever is happening around them
- make my students independent and life-long learners To accomplish these goals, I apply reflective teaching practice which promises several benefits including flexibility, practicality, professionalism, and sustainability. Reflective teaching practice helps me in addressing the needs of my students; in keeping into focus the input of students, co-teachers and others associated with the teaching/learning process; and in making connection between my teaching context, my students’ needs and my beliefs. Last but not the least, reflective teaching helps me in improving my ability to stay alert and give a quick response to my students’ needs while teaching along with doing other tasks like assessment, revision, implementation of teaching/learning approaches, and classroom activities on the spot.
