As a geophysicist, a physicist studies the physical aspects of the Earth in a variety of ways, including gravity, magnetism, electricity, and seismicity.By collecting data on seismic waves, which travel through and around the Earth, they will create a picture of what lies beneath the Earth's surface. This information is very important to the oil and gas industries who will be responsible for controlling the quality of the seismic data collected and interpreting it to create hydrocarbon formation maps.Other tasks include evaluating rock physical properties and collecting and testing well data to build reservoir models.
