- Grid Casting Shop
- Monitor grid weight, thickness and appearance, and verify grid quality before transfer to the Pasting Shop.
- Monitor grids during the ageing process and assess rigidity through deflection testing.
- Collect antimonial and calcium alloy samples for spectro-laboratory analysis.
- Pasting Shop and Lead Oxide Mills
- Monitor lead oxide consistency and purity through regular sampling and analysis against specifications.
- Monitor paste mixing parameters and the mixing of lead oxide, water and sulphuric acid according to the approved recipe.
- Assess paste quality using paste density, crunch and penetrometer checks.
- Inspect pasted panels for weight, thickness and appearance; conduct drop tests after curing and collect samples for free-lead analysis.
- Monitor chemical weighing and packing for paste mixing to ensure recipe compliance.
- Monitor and adjust curing chamber temperature and humidity to meet production standards.
- Formation Shop
- Monitor initial charging and discharging cycles during lead-acid battery formation.
- Monitor process parameters including temperature, current (amperage) and circuit specific gravity.
- Monitor TDO and IGO process parameters to help ensure formed-panel quality before the Cutting Shop.
- Cutting, Assembly and Incoming Materials
- Inspect formed plates during cutting for process quality and physical appearance before transfer to Assembly.
- Apply working knowledge of Assembly Shop processes and incoming material quality checks.
- Laboratory Testing
- Perform or monitor tests including OD, AD, iron in sulphuric acid, lead oxide, lead dioxide, cadmium, water TDS and moisture in pasted panels and formed plates.
- Oversee process quality parameters and support the quality team in maintaining and improving product standards.
- Conduct product inspections and quality audits; investigate issues through root-cause analysis.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality problems and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain quality and operational procedures to support consistent product quality.
- Support IMS and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance through audits across production shops.
- Ensure inspection and measuring equipment is calibrated.
- Identify opportunities to improve procedures, workflows and operational performance.
