Shift Engineer (National Power Control Center)
Presently I am working as power control engineer in national power control center (NPCC), National Transmission & Dispatch Company (functioning as a System Operator in Pakistan) .
1 Monitoring, planning and control of NTDC 500/220KV and Discos’ 132/66KV interconnected network with Thermal, Hydro, Nuclear power, Wind and Solar Power plants using SCADA system.
2 Maintains system security, reliability and stability using Load Frequency Control (AGC) and Voltage control methods.
3 Arrangement of schedule and emergent shutdowns on transmission facilities, transformers, generating units and other power system equipment.
4 Unit commitment and economic load dispatching keeping in view system constraints and Power Purchase Agreements with Independent Power Producers.
5 Power system restoration in case of partial/full collapse.
6 Short term and mid-term load forecasting and power planning.
7 Preparation of daily and monthly power system reports.
8 To conduct routine shutdowns of generating units & network components.
9 Operate the system as economically & reliable as possible by keeping all system parameters within the permissible limits.
10 Maintain 500kV, 220kV and 132kV voltage levels within prescribed limits by monitoring and controlling the system MVAR, switching of Shunt reactors and transformer voltage tap settings.
11 Implement connection/disconnection process in normal and emergency operation conditions.
12 To apprise the higher authorities regarding system abnormalities.
