We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer to build reliable services, external API integrations, and high-volume streaming data pipelines.

You’ll work with Python and Go, develop on AWS and Kafka, and build AI agents and tools that support engineering and production operations. This role combines hands-on development with ownership of reliability, performance, and production troubleshooting.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain integrations with third-party APIs.
• Develop backend services in Python and Go.
• Build and improve streaming data pipelines using Kafka and AWS.
• Design resilient integrations that handle authentication, rate limits, retries, pagination, and unexpected upstream failures.
• Modernise legacy services and improve performance.
• Investigate production alerts and data issues using logs and metrics.
• Build LLM-based agents and MCP tools to automate engineering and support tasks.
• Use AI-assisted tools throughout design, implementation, testing, code review, and operations.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, and Engineering teams.

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years of commercial backend development experience.
• Strong Python skills, including asyncio, type hints, Pydantic, and pytest.
• Production experience with Go. This role requires both Python and Go.
• Experience integrating third-party REST and/or GraphQL APIs at scale, including OAuth, rate limiting, retries with backoff, idempotency, and pagination.
• Hands-on AWS experience, particularly Lambda, S3, SQS, Kinesis/Firehose, and Secrets Manager.
• Experience with Docker and working knowledge of Kubernetes.
• Strong SQL skills, including PostgreSQL and analytical warehouses such as Redshift with large, partitioned tables.
• Experience with Kafka or a comparable streaming or messaging system.
• Good testing practices and experience with code reviews and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience building AI agents , including LLM APIs, tool use/function calling, MCP, prompt and context design, and evaluation of agent outputs.
• Experience using AI coding tools while remaining accountable for code quality, correctness, and security.
• Confidence troubleshooting production issues end to end.
• Good written and spoken English for collaboration with international teams.

Nice to have

• Serverless Framework, Sanic, aiohttp, or Helm.
• Airflow, Databricks, or other data engineering tools.
• Microsoft SQL Server or PHP experience for understanding and migrating legacy systems.
• Observability tools such as Coralogix, Prometheus/Grafana, or CloudWatch.
• Data modelling for analytics and versioned data contracts.
• Agent frameworks or SDKs such as Claude Agent SDK or LangGraph.
• RAG implementation and agent evaluation experience.
