Java Backend Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Java Backend Engineer – Consultant Level with 5+ years of professional experience in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, databases, and distributed systems, along with the ability to provide technical guidance and make sound architectural decisions. As a Consultant-Level Engineer, you will be expected to take ownership of complex backend initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, review technical solutions, and contribute to engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities

● Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.

● Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications.

● Analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into robust backend solutions.

● Participate in system design, architecture, and technical decision-making.

● Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and security.

● Design and optimize database structures, queries, and data access layers.

● Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.

● Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide effective technical solutions.

● Collaborate with frontend engineers, QA, DevOps, product managers, and other stakeholders.

● Mentor junior and mid-level developers and provide technical guidance where required.

● Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, monitoring, and production readiness.

● Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.

● Ensure clean, maintainable, well-tested, and documented code.

Required Skills & Qualifications

● 5+ years of professional experience in Java backend development.

● Strong proficiency in Java 8/11/17+ and object-oriented programming.

● Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, and Spring Security.

● Solid experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

● Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.

● Experience with Hibernate/JPA and database optimization.

● Good understanding of design patterns, SOLID principles, clean architecture, and clean code practices.

● Experience with Git and modern software development workflows.

● Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

● Experience with unit and integration testing using tools such as JUnit and Mockito.

● Strong understanding of application security, authentication, and authorization.

● Good understanding of concurrency, multithreading, caching, and performance optimization.

● Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

● Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

● Experience with Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging systems.

● Experience with Redis or other caching technologies.

● Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

● Experience working with Kubernetes.

● Familiarity with observability tools such as ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar platforms.

● Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

● Previous experience in a consulting, technical leadership, or architecture-focused role.
