I am a Public Health specialist focused on administration, public policy, and research. I am a dedicated, passionate, and organized professional.
I collaborate as a research intern under the mentorship of Dr. Edna Mora at the Research Biobank. We were recently working on the continuation of the study titled Archived Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded Breast Cancer Samples Showed High Quality Morphological and Histological Characteristics after Long Term Storage and on two case studies. I participate in all tasks related to these research projects such as the paper writing process, literature review, data entry, and data analysis.
I work as an interviewer and in search and location of subjects in the study titled Hurricane Maria Mortality Investigation, the principal investigators are Dr. Pablo Méndez-Lázaro and Dr. Carlos Santos-Burgoa. This study was funded by NIST and seeks to make recommendations that can improve the response to catastrophic natural events in communities of the United States by utilizing, for the first time on the island, verbal autopsies.
Trained as a research fellow in the Cancer Prevention and Control (CAPAC) Research Training Program (NCI Award Number #5R25CA240120-02) at the University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Edna Mora. For ten weeks I worked on my research project titled Archived Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded Breast Cancer Samples Showed High-Quality Morphological and Histological Characteristics after Long Term Storage in the biobank of this institution.
Participated in other activities such as multiple conferences, the presentation, and the evaluation of the poster of my project, witnessed the usual functions of the biobank, and had the opportunity to enter the operating room with my mentor.
Performed as an interviewer in both phases of the CASPER project, which was the first COVID-19 seroprevalence study in Puerto Rico.
I worked as a research assistant of Dr. Carol Salas in the Institute for Developmental Impairments and contributed to all the tasks of the different research projects such as the interview process of study subjects, data entry, and data analysis, among other assignments.
I attained a master's degree in Public Health from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Science Campus with a focus on public policy, management, and research.
I obtained a bachelor's degree in General Natural Sciences from the University of the Sacred Heart, and I was a student-athlete with a basketball scholarship.
