Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend-Oriented)

📍 Location: Candidates must be based in Europe

🏢 Work Model: Fully Remote

Commit is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus (approximately 80–85% backend) to build and scale high-performance, data-intensive systems. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy designing distributed systems, processing large volumes of data, and building reliable production services. While the role includes occasional React development, the primary focus is backend architecture, data pipelines, and system scalability.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong production experience with NestJS, TypeScript and Node.js.
• Proven experience designing and building high-scale backend systems with a focus on scalability, high availability, resilience, and performance.
• Strong experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures, including producers, consumers, streaming pipelines, and batching.
• Advanced expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, data modeling, query optimization, indexing, and SQL performance tuning.

• Working knowledge of Redis
• Experience deploying and operating applications in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Experience monitoring and debugging production systems using logs, metrics, and distributed tracing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript, Node.js, and NestJS
• Develop and optimize Kafka-based data pipelines for high-volume data ingestion and processing
• Build event-driven architectures, including producers, consumers, streaming workflows, and batching
• Design highly available, resilient, and autoscaling backend systems.
• Own PostgreSQL data modeling, schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Work with Redis and other supporting data stores where needed.
• Build, operate, and optimize production services in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Implement observability through logging, metrics, and distributed tracing.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform performance profiling, and improve system reliability.
• Contribute to React development by building new pages and implementing small UI enhancements when required.

Nice to Have

• Experience with application security, runtime protection, or vulnerability management.
• Experience building large-scale, data-intensive platforms.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Cursor.
• Comfortable working in AI-powered engineering environments, including AI-assisted code reviews.
