March 2023 - Present Personal projects

DB Workbench: [https://github.com/andretempera/db-workbench] A solo dev project for a local, modular, isolated database playground: 1) Configured 11 databases (File-based, SQL and NoSQL) containerized with Docker; 2) Built a Makefile abstraction layer to simplify database setup, access and reset; 3) Developed automatic initialization scripts with pre-populated test data; 4) Integrated CLI, GUI and SDK with persistent data between access modes; 5) Wrote detailed documentation and cheatsheets for rapid onboarding and troubleshooting.

Microsoft Power BI Course Capstone Project: A seven step assignment involving: 1) Preparing Excel Data; 2) Configuring data sources; 3) Designing and developing a data model; 4) Configuring Aggregations using DAX; 5) Creating sales and profit Reports; 6) Creating an executive Dashboard; and 7) Configuring Alerts and Subscriptions.

AWS Course Capstone POC: Three POC projects exploring different architectures: 1) EC2 hosting an app, connected to S3 and DynamoDB, with ALB and Auto-Scaling; 2) API Gateway to place database entries on DynamoDB through SQS and Lambda, and a second Lambda function to trigger SNS and send notification emails; 3) API Gateway ingests clickstream data, sends to Kinesis through Lambda, data is stored in S3, queried in Athena, and visualized in QuickSight.

IBM Data Engineering Course Capstone Project: A six step assignment involving: 1) Designing and populating a MySQL OLTP database and exporting data using a bash script; 2) Importing, querying and exporting data from MongoDB; 3) Designing and creating the schema for a data warehouse using PostgreSQL/ERD Tool, load data and write aggregation queries; 4) Designing a reporting dashboard using IBM Cognos Analytics; 5) Automating an ETL sync up between staging and production data warehouses, using MySQL, Db2, Python and Airflow; 6) Performing Big Data analytic queries and loading a pretrained forecasting model using Spark.

More than fifteen years of experience as a classical musician, performing in solo and in ensemble settings, as well as individually teaching hundreds of students of all ages in several Music Schools and Conservatories, in Portugal and in the United States.
