Manuel Almeida research philosophy promotes a critical approach to modelling by introducing machine learning algorithms and mechanistic/computational augmentations to improve our understanding or offer pragmatic solutions to a wide range of environmental/ecological problems. His research has been used to assist environmental management and to guide the policy-making process in a wide range of systems. He has the unique expertise to develop both process-based (mechanistic) and statistical (frequentist or Bayesian) models, as well as machine-learning techniques to address all kinds of problems.
