My name is Selma de Faria, and I am an experienced international, English and Humanities teacher, author, and former heritage professional, who has been teaching for 12 years. I am originally from Portugal, and have completed my graduate education in the UK.
I have also lived and worked in nine different countries by now, have a four-year bachelor’s degree in History from the New University of Lisbon (Portugal), hold a master’s degree from UCL (University College of London, UK) and am a published academic. In addition to this, I have also taken part in academic conferences as a speaker. The latest one took place in Wales at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where I spoke on socio-economic integration and environmental philosophy.
The UK is also, at this point, the country where I am the most published academically.
As a teacher, I have by now worked for several international schools abroad, namely in the UK and in the Middle East. Having by now taught students of all grades and ages, and being a hard-working proactive teacher, I have also given proof of being able to produce my own resources and implementing excellent class management, hence helping the students to achieve the best results. I have by now taught English, History, Social Studies, English, Geography and Human Geography to all grades, both through the British and American Curriculae, in several private, international schools.
I have dedicated my career to assisting both private and public school students, through developing comprehensive and stimulating lesson plans that facilitate all types of learning. As a teacher who is also a published academic and researcher, I take pleasure in locating and incorporating resources that can accommodate students via active kinaesthetic methods, such as Total Physical Response (TPR). My aim as a teacher is to always foster an open, supportive, and communicative classroom environment, in which every single student can feel included, special and engaged.
